Community Helpers

Every child picked their own fabric for a new scarf.
One child's dads and grandma came in with the sewing
machines and helped the kids use the machines.
When they weren't having their turn at the machines, the kids
tried their hand at hand stitching.

What you can't see is that the Ladybug is pushing
the pedal on the sewing machine.
All those beautiful scarves needed to be modeled!

One of our parents is a physician.  She came to class to talk
about being healthy, what she does at the hospital and how
some of those bones fit together.
We even had a staff member who was an army officer come
to class to talk about the jobs in the military.
We checked out the new school being built in the neighborhood.
We looked at the tools and machines the workers were using.
Finally, at the end of the week, we visited the fire station.
We learned about fire safety and the jobs that the firefighters do
to help us be safe.

This week we have been so lucky to have many visitors sharing their occupations and hobbies.  We have had the opportunity to learn about sewing, fire fighters, military jobs, construction workers, and what doctors do in a hospital.  The kids have loved having all these visitors and the opportunities to see what these community helpers do to help all of us.
