Welcome back!

The Ladybugs are working on symmetry,
the kids are creating symmetrical
designs around a line a of symmetry.
They were so successful with their designs!

First Friday is always a fun day for the whole school.
Today the topic was "building".  Different
classrooms had different building materials.
We finished the morning with some one on one reading
with the middle schoolers.

We are so lucky to be in a school that sees the value of pairing younger and older students to learn from each other.  It seems obvious what the younger kids get-one on one instruction, attention and opportunities to try things that they aren't big enough to do on their own.  What the big kids get is a little less obvious.  If you asked them, they would tell you they get to be roll models, play with little kids that think they are heroes, they learn to be patient with little people who don't always follow directions and that they learn a lot from the younger students.  They also tell us they might just get an appreciation for how hard being a teacher can be.  It's a win-win!

A little mixing. . .

As we wrapped up classes before winter break,
we made slime with our mentors.  It's a perfect
introduction to polymers.
Then we made gingerbread men,
they were yummy!
Wishing you all a restful winter break and a Happy New Year.

Snowflake Breakfast

All the pancakes and bacon you can eat....
eating with friends is the best!

Santa showed up.
Then there was the sing-a-long.
We finished it all up with the reindeer hokey pokey.

One of our favorite events at Seabury is the Snowflake breakfast. We celebrate being together as a school community.  There are lots of parent volunteers flipping pancakes and serving breakfast to our lower school students.  After breakfast, we gather together for a winter holiday sing-a-long.

Snowflakes and Picasso

It's been a crazy busy week in the Ladybugs,
Coach Nicole brought out the giant parachute,
we made snowflakes for the the Snowflake Breakfast
with our mentors, (who knew snowflakes involved
so much paint and water?)

participated in First Friday activities with the middle
schoolers,
and learned about Picasso with some of the
middle school kids.
We even attempted our own Picasso style abstract art.

It's been a fun week!

Visiting Tacoma's Main LIbrary

We visited the main branch of the Tacoma Public Library today.
They are currently hosting an exhibit on Maurice Sendak.
The librarian read a variety of monster books to us,
and they were wonderful! (and not even scary!)
Then the kids had the opportunity to find books to read from the stacks.

Fun times at the library today!  We checked out the books and illustrations by Maurice Sendak.

Happy Thanksgiving!

You know when the handprint turkeys come out, it must be
Thanksgiving!

Chocolate dipped pretzels-our contribution to the school
feast.

Thanksgiving is a special time with our Ladybugs.  We have been talking about gratitude and thankfulness and how fortunate we are at Seabury.  We celebrate with turkeys and feasts and remember the rest of our community with clothing and food drives.  Happy Thanksgiving.

The Science Lab

It's not at all a playground, it's a science lab!  The children helped pull shotweed, purple dead nettles, dandelions, and Californi...
